Comments:

Dipan is a pure, undiluted pancreatin, and does not contain lactulose, which is commonly found in other pancreatic enzyme products. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is a common finding in dogs. Dipan will help provide the digestive enzymes needed in these patients.

Acute or chronic pancreatitis is seen routinely in clinical practice. Therapy for pancreatitis includes resting the pancreas, thus allowing it to heal itself. Supplementing the diet with pancreatic enzymes should help allow the pancreas to produce fewer of its own enzymes, hopefully allowing it to heal itself.

WellVet.com also recommends Small Animal Antioxidants for Pancreatitis (click here to read about Small Animal Antioxidants).

Dogs with a chronic history of poor digestion, mucous coated stools and soft formed stools might show improvement with the use this product. Alternately, Similase (click here for information) can be used in animals sensitive to porcine products. We actually have several different digestive enzymes depending on your animal's needs).

Consider For:

There are a number of plant source digestive enzyme supplements on the market. Plant source digestive enzymes are often bioactive in a wide range of pH conditions (pH 3.0-9.0), making them more effective for some patients with digestive problems. Plant source digestive enzymes can be added to the diet through the addition of raw foods or supplemented through one of many of the different products available.

Pancreatic enzymes, such as this product, are the major source of digestion for the body. Pancreatic enzyme supplements often work more effectively, but they do cost more. Since they are inactivated in the stomach they need to be placed on the food prior to feeding.

It is reasonable to consider using either plant or pancreatic enzyme supplement, and switching if one is not working as well as the other.

WellVet.com also offers a plant source digestive enzyme, Similase. Click here to read about Similase.
